Millennials! WHAT DO WE CARE ABOUT?

Standard

Being a part of the “Lazy” Generation Y (Millennials) I have a hard time accepting the stigma around my generation. Society thinks were “entitled” and marketers think were broke and still living at home, but trying to understand the things we really care about is something the baby boomer’s will never really understand!

The digital age that we grew up in is misunderstood by many, even though we spend many hours on the internet and remaining indoors all day, we actually are exposing ourselves to information on such a large scale we have become great at multi tasking so many things at once we then are unable to put as much energy into actually finishing something. But while we were writing that great paper, we were probably also watching the latest viral video (Miley’s VMA Performance) I find that while trying to figure out what my generation actually cares about, well I’m gonna answer personally. (I was born in 1990) There is nothing really that I will care about for more than maybe a single afternoon, because in the next moment I am already moving on to the next three things I can multitask. (Online Shopping, Homework, Writing this Blog) 😉

This is all the negative stigma’s surrounding my generation, but what about the brighter side?

The Truth is we are actually highly educated and even though it may seem that we are very digital and social media orientated, while online posting blogs, liking pages we actually put a lot of thought into the decisions we are making while online, and the old marketing of deception we really don’t fall for that stuff. We actually are globally aware of what’s going on behind the curtains and really just strive to find truth in a digital world of lies and deception online.

We seek the truth and expect to be told something as it is, I know I respect myself enough to only be subject to information that has some value, I am very critical in everything I read, watch or pay any mind to.

I have confidence when I share information because I did the research to make my statement Valid.

Gen Y is also very interactive online, so we like to contribute and rant online about Miley Cyrus, but also about making a difference on a digital platform, we are very aware of the power behind the global influence of the internet.

And just because we enjoy the silly and sometime ridiculous viral videos and topics or trends, please do not let this speak for the entire integrity of the individual or generation for that matter.

Bon Jovi? T-Swift? Prince William?

Standard

Who would ever expect to see those three together singing Bon Jovi’s #1 Hit song Living on a Prayer, I was so excited to see Prince William on stage with an Icon such as Bon Jovi, and of course country music’s sweetheart Taylor Swift. The White Winter Gala was held at Kensington Palace, and raised £ 1 Million for youth homeless organisation Centrepoint, the video has become somewhat of an internet sensation.

I enjoyed the impromptu performance, and the influence the celebrity factor had in raising money for a charitable oragisation. The unlikely trio caught my eye while scrolling down my newsfeed. I think the main reason why it was so successful was because it was so unexpected and spontaneous. In every viral video you see these days there is always a shock value that catches peoples attention and get people all worked up!

I blurt out something like “seriously?” or “No Way” but in the end am almost always pleased with the strategic stunts high profile celebs choose to pull these days. I can’t imagine that these things happen just out of spontaneity anymore, but we are made to believe they are and I also like to believe that as a viewer I hold some kind of important criticism that the world needs to hear. So who exactly is in control here? Well that my friends is a very important question, in my safe little  blog I like to say it’s me. But it is also bigger than me!
